NUNSPEET, Netherlands (BRAIN) — Shimano, which already sponsors the BMC pro road racing team, will expand its relationship with BMC next year and take over sponsorship of its pro mountain biking team, the companies announced Wednesday.

The BMC team will race on Shimano XTR components, wheels and pedals. The team includes European champion Moritz Milatz and recently signed Julien Absalon, a four-time world champion and two-time Olympic champion.

Shimano and BMC are also expanding their relationship on the road. In 2013 the team will race on Dura-Ace 9070 Di2 components, Shimano wheels and pedals, and disc wheels from Shimano's PRO component line. The team previously was sponsored by Easton for wheels. BMC road team members include Americans Taylor Phinney and Tejay Van Garderen, Australia's Cadel Evans, Belgium's Philippe Gilbert and Norway's Thor Hushovd.
