Taipei Cycle adds IoT applications to 2018 design award categories

Published October 3, 2017

TAIPEI, Taiwan (BRAIN) — Next year's Taipei Cycle d&i Awards will be held at a different time of year to correspond to the Taipei Cycle show's shift from spring to fall. The awards also will feature a new category for the growing interest in the Internet of Things (IoT): "IoT Applications for Cycling."

Registration for the 2018 awards has officially opened. This year, iF DESIGN ASIA Ltd. will again organize the competition.

Designers, manufacturers, and distributors across all sectors of the industry are invited to register their designs until Aug. 31, 2018. Both exhibitors and non-exhibitors of the Taipei Cycle 2018 are welcome to enter.

Regarding the new category, organizers said, "In recent years, IoT has been steering the bicycle industry toward new directions of application and engendered the emerging trend of improving riding performance and rider comfort through the use of advanced technologies. For this reason, a brand new category, 'IoT Applications for Cycling', has been added to the TAIPEI CYCLE d&i awards. Submissions to this category might include wearables, handheld devices, Bluetooth-connected components, cloud systems, or system integration software for riding activities and the bicycle industry."

In other competition changes, four out of the eight gold award trophies this year will go to the best complete bikes and complete e-bikes. The winner of the "Gold Award – Young Enterprise" special honor will be exempted from the award winner's fee.

The jury session for the awards is scheduled to take place from Sept. 18-19, 2018.  The panel of judges will reveal the list of winners at a pre-show press conference on Sept. 19.
