Marc Sani

Marc was in the second month of a four-month kayak trip exploring the nooks and crannies of Baja’s 800-mile coastline when he received a cryptic message from home. Call Bill Tanler. A quick phone call from Bahia de Los Angeles and the deal was struck. They would launch Bicycle Retailer & Industry News in January 1992. Tanler, who passed away from a heart attack in 1999, lived to see BRAIN become the dominant trade magazine in the industry. Sani, who now serves as publisher, has helped steer the magazine over the years through several wrenching corporate transitions. Sani is a former wire service and newspaper reporter who thrives on news whether in print or on the web. He became interested in cycling and joined a local cycling club in the mid 1980s, but candidly admits that skiing is his first love and cycling was one way to stay in shape for backcountry powder.

California supplier vows to appeal jury verdict.

TAMPA, Fla. (BRAIN) — A former Giant dealer, in a dispute that centered on Giant Bicycle Inc. opening up a nearby competitor, has won a multimillion-dollar jury award after a two-year-long lawsuit. But Giant’s attorney, Sheldon Warren, said Wednesday that the company plans to appeal the decision.

IRVINE, Calif. (BRAIN) — Brian Wilson, Felt’s product developer, wants to break the news on a new mountain bike category Felt will launch in October in Europe. “I can’t tell you more or the boss will … ,” and his voice trailed off as he explained what would happen if he said too much. But what he did say was this: The category will be called “Decree.”

IRVINE, Calif. (BRAIN) — Felt Bicycles announced Tuesday that it will end traditional new model year introductions after its 2016 line and revert to what it calls “The Living Line.” Michael Forte, Felt’s general manager, said that traditional model years will cease at Felt and that decision could lead to its exit from Eurobike and Interbike this year.
