Thule updates T2 hitch rack with increased clearance, tool-free installation

Published July 9, 2015

SEYMOUR, Ct. (BRAIN) — Thule is updating its T2, which the company claims is already the best selling hitch rack in North America. The new T2, available next January, offers increased ground and vehicle clearance, tool-free installation, and longer platforms to fit longer wheelbase bikes. The rack also has increased clearance between each bike and the rack can be raised or lowered from the front. A tool-free AutoAttach system allows the rack to attach and detach from the vehicle quickly.

"For the past 10 years, consumers have carried over 3.5 million bikes and have traveled 28 million miles with the Thule T2, which is more consumer testing than any other bike rack on the market," the company said. "And now, the new Thule T2 model has been pushed even further to withstand daily use by passing an enhanced and more robust Thule Test Program. This heightened global testing protocol featured increased weight on the rack during road and lab tests compared to the previous Thule T2, as well as increased environmental standards to ensure the new Thule T2 stands the test of time."

Thule increased the distance between the rack and the vehicle by 40 percent, and added an extra inch of clearance between each bike for easier loading and unloading. Ground clearance was increased by 35 percent when tilting the rack down, for better access to the rear of the vehicle. The rack fits bikes with 20-inch to 29-inch wheels and the redesigned ratcheting arm accommodates everything from road bikes to fat bikes.

The new T2 9034 (2-inch hitch, two bikes) will retail for $529.95; the T2 9035 (1 1⁄4-inch hitch, two bikes) will also retail for $529.95. The T2 Add-On 9036 (2-inch hitch only, to add two more bikes to the T2 9034) will retail for $399.95.
