The 5th Spot

We want to give a shout out to the crew over at Chris King Components in Portland, Oregon. Despite some undesirable weather, a record number of Chris King employees commuted by bike every day they worked during National Bike Month in May.

Together they pedaled 11,468 miles, saved $2,322.27 in gas, avoided 1,627 car trips, burned 501,315 calories and kept 11,648 pounds of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere.

The group also takes part in a second local commuter competition in September, which it's won for the past two years. The boss rewards employees with days off for completing the challenges. But as Chris King's Chris DiStefano puts it: "It's not about the recognition, it's about influencing change."

Well said.
