The 5th Spot

Published December 3, 2008

While many in the industry were preparing for Thanksgiving, WTB marketing manager Dain Zaffke raced in one of the most brutal bicycle races known to mankind in Costa Rica called La Ruta.

“La Ruta is not fun,” Zaffke said. “But it is a great way to see a beautiful country and it's an incredible experience for the sheer absurdity. That, to me, is the biggest selling point to race La Ruta. You get a year's worth of good stories in four short days.”

Zaffke finished 24th in the pro/open class, and fourth among American finishers. “My goal was top 30, so I'm pretty happy with that result,” Zaffke added.
