Bicycling magazine's BikeTown USA, sponsored by MetLife, traveled to eight different cities and gave away more than 240 Jamis commuter bikes during its 2010 event program. At the Boston event (pictured), Mayor Thomas Menino joked that while Bicycling once ranked Boston as a "worst city for biking," it now resides on the magazine's "bike-friendly cities" list. As background, Bicycling's BikeTown USA seeks to change people's lives for the better with the gift of a bike. People tell the editors of Bicycling in a short essay "how a new bike could change their life," and the winners are recognized during a special giveaway ceremony. The stories and results of some individuals are then featured in Bicycling magazine or online. In 2010, Bicycling traveled to eight cities, giving away more than 240 Jamis commuter bikes. The program was made possible by sponsor MetLife, and bike provider Jamis.
