Earth Day honor for Spokesman Cycles owner • Eastern Mountain Sports triples size of Manchester, Conn., store • Polar has new president, launches Tour de France computer • FSA and Vision official Giro d'Italia partners

NEW YORK, NY (BRAIN) Tuesday April 24 2012 3:16 PM MT—Carlos Dall’Orso, owner of Spokesman Cycles, was honored in an Earth Day ceremony Sunday, April 22, by New York City Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer.

At the Museum of the Moving Image, Van Bramer recognized community advocates who “think globally and act locally.” He presented Dall’Orso with a proclamation from the New York City Council stating, “For the past 20 years Carlos Dall’Orso has been an advocate for alternative transportation within the City of New York.”

Spokesman Cycles, founded by Dall’Orso in 2004, has grown to five locations in New York City. It caters to a large clientele of commuters as well as delivery cyclists.

In 2010, Van Bramer visited Spokesman’s Long Island City location, in his Western Queens district, to buy a bicycle for Bike to Work Day. He has been a supporter of New York City’s growing network of bike lanes.


EMS triples size of Manchester, Connecticut, store

MANCHESTER, CT (BRAIN) Tuesday April 24 2012 3:15 PM MT—Eastern Mountain Sports is holding a grand opening for its new store location in Manchester this weekend. The new store is nearly three times the size of its previous location, which was also in the Plaza at Buckland Hills shopping center.

"The people in this community have supported this location for over 15 years and we're thrilled to provide them with an upgraded shopping experience with more gear to choose from," said EMS CEO Will Manzer. The new location will feature a new section for kids, an expanded kayak and stand-up paddle board department, as well as a larger full-service bike shop.

A portion of the grand opening proceeds is being donated to Connecticut Forest & Park Association.


Polar has new president, launches Tour de France computer

LAKE SUCCESS, NY (BRAIN) Tuesday April 24 2012 3:19 PM MT—Polar USA on Tuesday announced the hiring of a new president, Herb Baer. Baer comes to Polar from Water-Jel Technologies, which manufactures and markets medical devices and over-the-counter products. Prior to joining Water-Jel Technologies, he spent close to two decades with Fujifilm USA.

Polar also introduced a limited edition Polar RCX5 Tour de France training computer. The Polar RCX5 Tour de France will retail for $389.95 to $569.95, depending on options. Among other features, the device enables users to quickly switch between sports during training, to quickly adjust settings to the current sport. It automatically detects any sensors needed, so that no time or training data is lost between swims, rides or runs, for example.


FSA and Vision are official Giro d'Italia partners
MILAN, Italy (BRAIN) Tuesday April 24 2012 3:25 PM MT—FSA and Vision will supply neutral support wheels during each stage of next month's Giro d'Italia, as well as components for the 'official bike' of the Giro.

"This is an important step for our brands," said Claudio Marra, FSA s.r.l.'s general manager. "The organization of Giro d'Italia was looking for a new partner for components and wheels and they believe that FSA and Vision are the right choice. We are really happy and honoured that Giro d'Italia has chosen FSA and Vision for such an important event. Our European company is based in Italy, and the possibility to be an official partner of the most important Italian race makes us very proud."
