Cane Creek, CamelBak and other bike companies make Outside's Best Places to Work list

Published October 2, 2014

SANTA FE, N.M. (BRAIN) — Cane Creek Cycling Components was the only bicycle hardware manufacturer to make Outside magazine's new list of the Best Places to Work. The employee-owned manufacturer, based near Asheville, North Carolina, was Number 90 on the list of 100 workplaces that magazine deemed cool. The company was cited for its proximity to trails, a condensed work week that allows Friday afternoon recreation, and its proximity to many micro breweries.

"Post-ride celebrations occur at any of the area’s 18 craft breweries (that’s the highest per capita density in the United States, in case you were wondering)," the magazine gushed. It also noted that Cane Creek is hiring for two new positions.

"Cane Creek Cycling Components is proud to have made this celebrated list. As an employee-owned, American manufacturer, we are here for more than just a paycheck. Across the board, our employees are building something larger,” said Scott Sonnone, Cane Creek's CEO, in a press release distributed by Cane Creek Thursday morning.

Cane Creek was not the only bike-related company to make the list. Others included Strava (San Francisco, #100), Backbone Media (Carbondale, Colo., #95), CamelBak (Petaluma, Calif., #92), Smith Optics (Ketchum, Idaho, #91), Backroads (Berkeley, Calif., #81), and TrainingPeaks (Boulder, Colo., #41).

The first place of employment on the list was an elementary school in Montana.
