Downeast opts for four mini-catalogs this year

Published February 13, 2015

FRYEBURG, Maine (BRAIN) — Downeast Bicycle Specialists is moving away from the tradition of a large annual printed catalog. Instead, Downeast will publish four quarterly mini-catalogs featuring new and seasonally-oriented product and new vendors.

"Given the increasing reliance on our website and decreasing use of our printed catalog, we felt we could better serve our customers by focusing on our online presence rather than on printed media" said Jeff Cavicchi, Downeast's general manager. "The monetary savings from skipping production of a 400-plus page catalog will be used to improve the Downeast Bike website, increase our presence on social media platforms, and better manage our digital assets."

"We also feel that shorter catalogs focused primarily on new items will be both more interesting and more useful to our customers."

Downeast will continue to print and mail monthly flyers featuring seasonal specials, vendor promos, and special sales in addition to the quarterly mini-catalogs. The first mini-catalog will be available in early March, timed to correspond with the Downeast Open House.
