Thomson offers to accept Trek recall vouchers toward component trade-in

Published May 15, 2015

MACON, Ga. (BRAIN) — Thomson Bike Products is offering to accept the $20 voucher that Trek is issuing to consumers who have bikes with recalled QR levers. The component company will accept the voucher via its website and put $20 toward the purchase of a new seatpost, stem or handlebar if the consumer also returns a used product.

The company said components should be replaced after about 10,000 miles of use in normal conditions.

As part of its recall, Trek is giving consumers who visit a shop to get their QR replaced a $20 coupon that can be used to buy Bontrager products. In a press release, Thomson applauded Trek for its handling of the recall. It also said the recall had spurred discussion in online cycling forums about the useful life of components.

"Rider safety and product dependability is why Thomson entered the cycling industry almost 20 years ago. In an effort to stand behind Trek and reduce component failure, Thomson will honor the $20 Trek-issued discount voucher, given to every cyclist who participates in the Trek recall, for a bikethomson.com online purchase of a Thomson seatpost, stem, or handlebar."

To use the voucher, the consumer must send back the part he or she is replacing.

"While sending in your old component may not be 'normal,' Thomson wants to assure that old components (any brand) end up at an aluminum recycling facility instead of at an online auction house. Having a better and more reliable riding experience is the primary focus here at Thomson – stay safe," the company said.
