KONA, Hawaii (BRAIN) — Lava Magazine once again did a count of equipment used on the bike leg of this weekend's Ironman World Championships here.
"As over 2,000 of the world's top Ironman athletes checked their bikes at Kailua Pier, dozens of tri industry players tallied bikes and components for the annual litmus test of buying trends," the magazine said. "The annual count gives the triathlon industry a scope of what the sport's best athletes are buying and an idea of who will be the major players for the next few years."
Repeat winners this year included Cervélo frames, Zipp wheels and Rudy Projects helmets.
It was the sixth straight year that Rudy Project had the most popular helmet in Kona.
“I’m speechless!” said Paul Craig, Rudy Project North America's president and co-founder. “Last year I was absolutely blown away when we won the count for the fifth consecutive year, but this tops all my expectations."
The count also included saddles, drivetrains, hydration (front, rear and frame), aerobars and pedals.

Switzerland's Daniela Ryf won the women's race, riding a Felt bike with HED wheels. Germany's Jan Frodeno won the men's race. He used a Canyon bike with Zipp wheels.
