From Skate Punk to Roadie

Published February 6, 2009

Looking every bit the skate punk with his handlebar mustache and '80s psychedelic-print sweatshirt, Scott USA marketing maven Adrian Montgomery dropped by the BRAIN office today en route from the San Diego wind tunnel to Solvang for the Team Columbia-Highroad camp.

Montgomery said he was at the wind tunnel with a few of Team Columbia’s riders refining their time-trial positions on the new Scott Plasma2. As the San Diego Allied Aerospace Wind Tunnel is primarily designed for testing aircraft, it should come as no surprise that the tunnel time comes at a premium—minimum $3,000 per hour.

But as the Columbia riders head to training camp in Solvang this weekend, they’re looking to shave every second from their TT position before the Tour of California next weekend.

Montgomery said he’ll be hanging out in the expo area at the finish of each Tour stage handing out catalogs and swag. But don’t expect him to be sporting the goatee—he said it doesn’t really fit with the roadie crowd.
