BRAIN Bike to Work Month Contest

Published April 30, 2009

Bike to Work Month kicks off today and BRAIN isn’t letting the occasion pass us by this year. We’ve launched an office wide competition to see who can rack up the most miles and the most trips during the month of May. Track Team BRAIN on www.greenlightride.com to see who’s leading the pack and who’s slackin’.

The competition has us all thinking about the planning and commitment (not to mention motivation) that’s necessary to ditch the car, even if it’s just for one day a week, and I think that’s a good thing.

Our editor with the longest commute has a 30-mile one-way trek from Long Beach, which includes braving the always-busy PCH. Another BRAINer has three kids with endless places they need to be throughout the day all over the county. Others have to pick up toddlers from daycare after work. All this makes it tough to think about living without the convenience of a car, particularly in car-centric Orange County. But, I’m hoping the lure of a couple prizes (who doesn’t like free money and extra paid days off?) will get us all thinking about getting out of the driver’s seat and onto the saddle this month.

OK, enough tooting our own horn. We want to hear from others in the industry about Bike to Work Month plans. We’ve already heard from DT Swiss. They launched a Bike to Work program on Earth Day this year and are also using Greenlight to track their progress. DT Swiss employees can win a new Scott commuter bike and extra vacation days for participating. Not too shabby.
