L.A.-area shop offers car trade-in for bike

Published March 14, 2012

WOODLAND HILLS, CA (BRAIN) Mar 14, 14:28 MT—With Southern California drivers once again hemorrhaging money at the gas pump, Santa Monica Mountains Cyclery is rolling out a promotion whereby customers can trade in their cars for credit toward a new bicycle purchase.

From March 19-25, SMMC will work with local auto dealer Vista Ford, and accept cars and SUVs in trade toward the purchase of a new bicycle. Consumers can go pick out a new bike at SMMC, which will then direct them across the street to the auto dealer to have their vehicle evaluated and appraised. They trade the car to Vista Ford and return to the bike shop to pedal home on their new ride.

“It’s Los Angeles. Gas prices are near all-time highs and the freeways are as congested as always. We want to give people the opportunity to get out of their gas-guzzling cars and SUVs and trade them for the most fuel-efficient vehicle we know—the bicycle,” said SMMC owner David Kooi.
