Arizona shop A-1 moves to larger home

GILBERT, AZ (BRAIN) Monday July 30 2012—A-1 Bike Center has relocated from its home of 20 years in Mesa, Arizona, to a larger location in nearby Gilbert.

The Mesa shopping center had fallen on hard times, and A-1 was the last remaining tenant, noted staffer Jeff Dieken, who has been with the shop since it first opened in 1992. “Our lease came up, and we looked at all our codes and addresses, and all our customers were coming from a couple miles away [in Gilbert], so we moved there,” he said. The new location opened July 1.

Not only did A-1 increase its square footage—to 3,000 from 2,400—but the new shopping center is filled with a thriving mix of tenants fed by an adjacent private residential community, a perfect fit for A-1’s family bike business, according to Dieken. “We sell a lot of road and comfort bikes,” he said.

Trek is the shop’s primary bike line, but other brands might be added soon, Dieken added.

“We’ve sold more in the first month than in any month past,” he reports.

An August grand opening is planned. “We’re waiting for all the new bikes from Trek to become available so we can have them out before the opening,” noted Dieken.
