Upstate NY retailer completes expansion

Published August 9, 2012

ITHACA, NY (BRAIN)Owner Jeff Inman has doubled the retail space of his Ithaca shop, Cayuga Ski and Cyclery, with the addition of a second floor.

In 2006, Inman purchased an old building at 624 West State Street with plans to expand his bike and ski shop, which has been open since 1993. With the addition of a back shop and, now, a second floor, Inman’s vision of an improved location is complete.

“I felt the need to have more bikes and products on display,” said Inman. “The second floor allows us to display bikes year-round, which will be a huge benefit during ski season.”

Cayuga Ski and Cyclery supplies the “small, but very active” community of Ithaca with a healthy stock of bikes from Giant and Scott, along with a smattering of smaller brands. “With two colleges nearby, we definitely gear our focus toward college students,” noted Inman, “but the cycling population in Ithaca is great—there are active off-road, road and triathlon communities here.”

The Bicycle Retailer Top 100 dealer also provides a wide variety of skis, clothing, accessories and professional repair services.

Always looking for new ways to expand his business, Inman recently launched Cayuga Ski and Cyclery’s online shopping catalog.

“We’ve been very successful with our brick-and-mortar store and now want to expand our radius of customers,” said Inman. “We’re working hard on getting everything set, and it should be running smoothly by the time college starts up again.”
