California retailer Steve Bowen dies on ride

Published December 27, 2012

PALOS VERDES, CA (BRAIN) — Steve Bowen, owner of Palos Verdes Bicycle Center, died Sunday of natural causes while riding in Malibu with a friend, according to the store.

The family has not announced plans for a memorial service. The store will remain closed until "new ownership is in place" according to its website. The store will announce developments on its site or on its Facebook page.

Cycling journalist Patrick Brady said the local cycling community is "really hurting" over Bowen's death.

"He really was a fine example of the best qualities found in retailers: friendly, patient, ethical and an avid cyclist himself," said Brady, the editor of RedKitePrayer.com.
