Velogear merged with partner website

Published November 11, 2013

OMAHA, NE (BRAIN) — The Velogear.com website will be shut down Friday and its operations merged with that of a site owned by the same company: trekbicyclestores.com.

Velogear, which sold cycling collectibles via mailings and then online, was founded by the owners of VeloNews magazine in 1999. In 2009, CGI, VeloNews' new owner, sold the operations to Midwest Cycling, the operators of six Trek Bicycle Store locations in the Midwest.

Midwest Cycling has decided to focus its online retailing efforts on its primary website, trekbicyclestores.com. Starting at the end of day Friday, all Velogear.com traffic will be redirected to that site.

“We will continue to provide the unique gifts and apparel that Velogear is famous for,” said Midwest Cycling president Kent McNeill. “But we’ve learned that our time and marketing dollars are best spent in promoting a single online platform, and we see trekbicyclestores.com as the better long term opportunity for our business and a more comprehensive online shopping destination for our customers.”
