Shimano becomes platinum sponsor of NICA

Published February 23, 2017

IRVINE, Calif. (BRAIN) — Shimano has signed on as a platinum level sponsor of the National Scholastic Cycling Association for the 2018 season. The company’s support includes a combination of product allocation and financial backing, which will be used to enable neutral support at league races and provide NICA the resources to expand interscholastic cycling across the country.

“With a long-history in the cycling world, Shimano has always pushed the industry forward both with innovative products and designs but also in the advocacy realm,” said Ryan Miller, senior manager, go to market team at Shimano American Corp. “We are honored to work with NICA to grow youth cycling across the United States."

“The goal is to give every American youth the opportunity to build strong body, mind and character through interscholastic cycling,” said Austin McInerny, president of NICA. “It’s about so much more than competition and racing. We’re developing the next generation of riders, trail stewards, and cycling advocates while also providing opportunities for adults to serve as coach/mentors in their communities.”

Shimano will have a consistent presence on race day, providing branded tents and course tape for NICA league races in NorCal, SoCal, Texas, Minnesota, Wisconsin, New York, Tennessee, Alabama, Idaho, Virginia, Nevada, Georgia, Arizona, Arkansas, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and New Jersey cycling leagues.

Founded in 2009, NICA has seen huge growth and progress — from two regions and 700 participants in the first year, to 19 regions and 11,000 student-athletes and 4,000 licensed coaches nationwide currently. With its support, Shimano aims to provide resources to continue NICA’s strong growth trajectory.
