The first annual Closer to Free Ride will take place on September 10, 2011. The goal of the ride is to raise money for Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven and create greater awareness for cancer care throughout Connecticut and Southern New England.
The event's start and finish will be at the Yale Bowl Complex in New Haven. The ride will run along the scenic Connecticut coastline and pass through 12 towns including: New Haven, East Haven, North Branford, Guilford, Madison, Killingworth, Deep River, Essex, Old Saybrook, Westbrook, Clinton and Branford. Both a 100-mile and a 25-mile route option will be offered. Each rider is required to raise a minimum of $1,000 through personal fundraising in order to participate.
