I had a chance recently to view the short film about handmade builder Richard Sachs entitled "Imperfection is Perfection." I thought it was a very cool look into Sachs the builder, and Sachs the competitor (loved the 'cross footage of Sachs).
Sometimes you just don't get a clear picture of how much work actually goes into one of his bikes by seeing it polished on the handmade show floor. By the same token, his bikes aren't meant to be displayed, but ridden and ridden hard (again, check out the 'cross footage.)
What makes Sachs a special builder—like any true and gifted artist—is that he's still striving for that perfect frame. I'd like to be that lucky customer.
