Montgomery, Lifeboat Part Ways

Published August 25, 2011

LAGUNA NIGUEL, CA (BRAIN)—Scott Montgomery is no longer affiliated with Lifeboat Events, organizer of PressCamp, DealerCamp and Urban PressCamp, according to Chris Zigmont, one of the partners in Lifeboat Events.

Montgomery joined the company in January as chairman following his departure from Scott Sports last fall. Convinced of Lifeboat Events’ growth potential, he invested in the business as a financial stakeholder.

“Scott and Lance and I have known each other for a long time and certainly have a huge amount of respect for each other and like him as a person,” Zigmont said. “The prospect of having him join us seemed like a good idea. Like any relationship, it takes a while to learn each other’s ways. In the end, the direction that Scott wanted to grow the company and the way we wanted to grow it were different—not better or worse, but different.”

Montgomery declined to comment on the split.

Zigmont said there’s no plan to bring on another investor at this time. But that Lifeboat recently hired Robert Roman as sales manager, picking up some of the sales Montgomery handled.

“I think we’re in pretty good shape from a personnel and sales perspective,” Zigmont said.

Montgomery, a former executive at Cannondale, has deep ties with industry suppliers and retailers and through those relationships was able to convince many new exhibitors to give DealerCamp a try this year.

The July event in Deer Valley drew 128 exhibitors representing 200 brands, a big jump from last year's inaugural event that attracted 27 companies, representing 51 brands.
