Rocky Mountain Dirt Series Camp Kicks Off

WHISTLER, B.C. (BRAIN)—The Dirt Series by Rocky Mountain Bicycles, a traveling mountain bike skills instruction program, took to the road for its eighth season this month. Its first stop was in North Vancouver last weekend, April 19-20.

This year, the program is offering an unprecedented 19 women’s-only and co-ed mountain bike camps in destinations like Sun Valley, Southern California, Park City, North Vancouver and the Dirt Series home base of Whistler.

“Our camps are all about helping people take those first steps in technical mountain biking, or moving them up from one step to the next,” said Candace Shadley, program founder. “We offer an environment in which people can tailor their camp to their particular interests, learn at their own pace and have a great time in the process.”

The program was founded in 2001 with the vision of getting more women excited and involved in mountain biking. Since its start the camp has hosted more than 4,000 individual participants. The camp caters to riders from novice to expert level ranging from ages 17 to 70.

Each two-day camp offers small-group skill sessions, instructional rides to practice new techniques and opportunities to demo equipment from the program's industry sponsors. These include Sugoi, Fox Racing Shox, Dakine, Crankbrothers, Giro, Maxxis, Adidas Eyewear and Race Face among others. Several locations also feature Rocky Mountain team athletes as guest coaches.
