Share/Bookmark

WORCESTER, MA (BRAIN)—Cyclists came from all around the country to Worcester, Massachusetts, on Wednesday to pay tribute to 1899 world cycling champion Marshall "Major" Taylor and attend a memorial statue dedication.

The dedication ceremony featured many moving, heartfelt comments from members of the Major Taylor Association, local and state government officials, Major Taylor's
descendents, Olympic track gold medalist Edwin Moses and Tour de France champion Greg LeMond.

Installed outside the Worcester Public Library, the Major Taylor Statue is the first public statue to honor a cyclist in the United States.
