Published October 5, 2010

SALT LAKE CITY, UT (BRAIN)—SOAR Communications has hired Jared Eborn as their account executive. Eborn was previously a journalist for the Salt Lake City-based newspaper the Deseret News covering sports and outdoor recreation.

As a new member of the SOAR team, Eborn will work with clients such as Health+Fitness Business, Interbike, Outdoor Retailer, Primal Wear, the Tour of Utah and pro-bono accounts Bikes for Kids Utah and Trips for Kids, according to a press release.

"Jared has worked as a reporter, editor and designer in the news industry for 17 years," said Chip Smith, president of SOAR Communications. "He has even covered news for many of our clients while he was at the Deseret News. His experience of asking the right questions to determine what the news is of a given story, and his understanding of what journalists are looking for story-wise, as well as what they need to get their jobs done, is what attracted us to him. It's going to be great having him working at SOAR."

While working for the Deseret News, Eborn's beats and assignments included college football, basketball and numerous Olympic sport events including the Tour of Utah, Ironman triathlons, World Cup speedskating and skiing events, as well as high school, professional sports and countless other events. Eborn was among the leaders at the Deseret News in utilizing social and digital media to enhance the newspaper's reach and personally published what is considered Utah's first newspaper sports blog in 1998.

Adding to Eborn's knowledge of the sports and outdoor industries is his active participation in cycling, triathlon and running events. A Master's level competitor, Eborn has completed the grueling 206-mile LOTOJA Classic bicycle race three times, participated in four Ironman 70.3 triathlons, and dozens of other cycling, triathlon and running races.

"I'm excited to join SOAR and use my journalism experience in the sports and outdoor arena to help our clients connect with their customers and the media," Eborn said. "After close to two decades working as a journalist and as an active participant in the market our clients operate in, I look forward to putting my skills and knowledge to work on their behalf."

Prior to joining SOAR Communications, Eborn earned a bachelor of science degree in communications, with an emphasis in journalism, from Utah State University. He has worked as a staff reporter or editor for the Salt Lake Tribune, Idaho State Journal and Deseret News. He has also been published in numerous print and online publications across the country including CBSSports.com, AOL Fanhouse.com, the Fresno Bee, the Sacramento Bee, the St. Paul Pioneer Press, the Providence (Rhode Island) Journal, the Portland Oregonian and others.

Eborn's first official day at SOAR Communications was Monday, October 4. In addition to Smith, he joins long-time Account Executive Maura Lansford at the company.
