Downeast upgrades website, integrates with POS systems

Published April 1, 2013

FRYBURG, ME (BRAIN) — Maine distributor Downeast Bicycle Specialists has coordinated its systems with several Point of Sale vendors to allow integration with SmartEtailing programs and give retail buyers more information.

Besides SmartEtailing, which offers a "Buy Local Now" program, Downeast is now integrated with Merchant OS, Digital Retail Solutions, and Ascend POS systems.

"Integration is the vital step in ensuring that a shop can immediately see Downeast's inventory, cost, and descriptive information in the POS system. This translates into building sales orders for the retail customer without wasting their time," the company said in a release.

Downeast built an entirely new product database in part to provide content to its website and print catalog. The system improves search functions on the company's web site; users can now search for UPC's/EAN's, supplier part number, descriptive information, category, and sub-category. Searches can also be filtered by supplier or various item attributes if a very specific item is needed.
