220 employees are given November 3 off and encouraged to head to the polls or support others to vote.

Boulder, Colorado, USA — October 26, 2020 —Pocket Outdoor Media (POM), the world’s leading creator of active lifestyle content, is the latest company to join the business-led, nonpartisan coalition, Time To Vote, which aims to increase voter participation in the U.S. elections. Voter turnout in the U.S. is one of the lowest in the developed world with only 56% of the U.S. voting-age population casting a ballot in the 2016 presidential election.

One of the most common reasons people give for not voting is that they are too busy with the demands of life and work. The coalition, which represents more than six million workers in the U.S., is addressing this challenge by giving employees the time and the tools they need to exercise their right to vote in the November general election.

POM has joined the coalition and shown its support of the movement by declaring November 3, Election Day, a company holiday so that its 220 employees have the opportunity to vote and/or support others in getting to the polls.

“The right to vote is a cornerstone of our democracy, but it too often goes unused and access is increasingly under siege,” said Robin Thurston, CEO of Pocket Outdoor Media. “Our employees are the heart and soul of our business. We encourage them to take time each day to do the activities they love because we believe it can change their day, and the world. This election day we are taking that commitment further by giving our employees the day off and the tools they need to be active and engaged citizens.”

Pocket Outdoor Media is proud to join many other active lifestyle companies in the Time To Vote coalition, including Patagonia, Arc’teryx, Burton, Deuter USA, Eddie Bauer, Smith Optics, and VF Corporation.

About Time to Vote

Time to Vote is a nonpartisan, business-led initiative to help ensure employees across America don’t have to choose between voting and earning a paycheck. Participation includes giving employees access to and information about early voting or vote-by-mail options, offering paid time off on Election Day or making it a day without meetings. Time to Vote was founded by Levi Strauss & Co., Patagonia and PayPal ahead of the 2018 midterm elections, when 411 companies representing all 50 states and a variety of industries joined.
