More than $40,000 raised for St. Augustine’s University through Canyon and HBCU fundraiser.

(CARLSBAD, CA -- 9 MARCH 2021) – Canyon Bicycles helps raise funds for St. Augustine’s University, making the Historically Black College or University (HBCU) cycling team the most well funded sport at the University. The HBCU fundraiser brought in more than forty thousand dollars by raffling off a complete Canyon Ultimate CF SLX bicycle which was donated by Canyon. The raffle was held from January 26, 2021 through Feb 28, 2021.

"SAU is very grateful for the community support of the recent Canyon bike raffle,” said Mark Janas, SAU Sports Program Professor and Team Co-Founder. “Over $40,000 was raised that will go directly toward team operations, support, equipment, travel, and race fees. Thank you Canyon and the cycling community at large!"

Saint Augustine’s University introduced the first HBCU cycling team in the country in 2020 through its School of Business, Management, & Technology. This co-ed team of twelve riders (eight men and four women) began training in the Fall on the university’s Raleigh, North Carolina campus.

“We are thrilled with the success of the raffle and glad to be a part of the program,” said Blair Clark, Canyon US President. “We hope that Canyon’s support and partnership with HBCU will continue to inspire current and future students to develop their passion for riding while building a more inclusive cycling community.”

Canyon is producing a video series documenting the team’s development which can be found here, on the Chasing History Channel.
