Irvine, CA (March 26, 2023) – The National Bicycle Dealers Association (NBDA) and the League of American Bicyclists (LAB) are proud to announce their new partnership focused on growing bicycling at the local level with the independent bicycle retailer at the heart of that community.

The NBDA, founded in 1946, is the largest association of bicycle retailers in North America, representing and empowering specialty bicycle dealers in the United States through education, communications, research, advocacy, member discount programs, and promotional opportunities. The LAB, founded in 1880, is people-powered, with a goal to make bicycling safer and easier as a means of transportation and recreation.
The partnership provides LAB membership free of charge to all retailer members of the NBDA. The membership opportunity will allow both organizations to offer independent bicycle dealers additional resources, programming, and education on several key initiatives; including promoting the benefits of cycling as a healthy and sustainable mode of transportation and advocating for policies that support safe and connected cycling infrastructure aimed to help better serve customers.

"We are thrilled to partner with the League of American Bicyclists to help create a more sustainable future for our industry. We need to double down on creating opportunities to ride in our local communities," said Heather Mason, President of the NBDA. "We are delighted to offer our retailers access to the many resources the League has available to create more Bicycle Friendly Businesses, safe cycling routes, cycling programs led by League certified instructors and ultimately bicycle friendly communities. We could not be more thankful for the partnership."

"The League of American Bicyclists is dedicated to making cycling safe, comfortable, and accessible for all people, regardless of their age, ability, or background," said Bill Nesper, Executive Director of the League of American Bicyclists. "We are excited to partner with the NBDA to offer their retailers free membership to the League, and all the resources that come with it. Through this work, we are united in support of the growth of cycling in the United States which will help more people experience the many benefits of this healthy and sustainable mode of transportation."

The partnership between the NBDA and the LAB is a significant step forward in the promotion of safe and accessible cycling throughout North America. Together, these two organizations will work to align the specialty bicycle retailer’s business with their community’s bicycling advocacy in an effort to support the life changing power of the bicycle ultimately creating a brighter future for cyclists everywhere.
