Leading Industry Experts Collaborate to Enhance E-Mobility Device Safety and Standards

Irvine, CA – Aug 11, 2023 – The National Bicycle Dealers Association (NBDA) is pleased to announce the formation of the Bicycle Industry E Bike Safety & Standards Panel, a pioneering initiative aimed at fostering collaboration among industry experts to address critical safety and standards concerns related to lithium-ion batteries and e-mobility devices. This quarterly platform will serve as a central hub for experts to engage in constructive discussions, share insights, and formulate best practices, with the overarching goal of enhancing safety and compliance across the burgeoning e-bike sector.

The Bicycle Industry E Bike Safety & Standards Panel represents a concerted effort by the NBDA to drive proactive measures within the industry, ensuring that safety remains at the forefront of e-mobility development and deployment. By bringing together experts from various sectors, the panel aims to address the diverse challenges associated with lithium-ion batteries and e-mobility devices, spanning crucial segments including codes, standards, certifications, importation, battery management, insurance coverage, supplier and retailer best practices, recycling, and consumer education.

"Ensuring the safety and reliability of e-mobility devices, particularly lithium-ion batteries, is of paramount importance to the National Bicycle Dealers Association," said Heather Mason, President of the NBDA. "The formation of the Bicycle Industry E Bike Safety & Standards Panel underscores our commitment to creating a cohesive and collaborative environment for industry stakeholders to collectively address challenges, share insights, and establish comprehensive best practices. We believe that by uniting experts from various domains, we can drive positive change and elevate the standards of safety and compliance within the e-bike sector."

The panel members, comprising industry leaders, engineers, scientists, manufacturers, retailers, and policymakers, have committed to actively collaborate and work in unison to identify potential risks, concerns, and opportunities related to e-mobility devices. Through this collaborative approach, the panel aims to have positive discussions encompassing shipping, receiving, storage, maintenance, charging, selling, and servicing of lithium-ion batteries, promoting safe practices and raising awareness about potential hazards.

The first forum will be held on September 12, 2023. The NBDA encourages all industry stakeholders, including manufacturers, retailers, policymakers, and consumers, to actively engage with the Bicycle Industry E Bike Safety & Standards Panel to collectively shape the future of e-mobility safety and standards. This can be done by submitting topics to be discussed during the quarterly meetings, by attending and submitting questions to the experts during the event, or by requesting to join the panel as an expert.
