Re_Pak boxes will be placed at retailers and select outdoors events as the brand aims to recycle 1,200 bottles in pilot program

OAKLAND, Calif.  – HydraPak®, global leader of high-performance hydration solutions, is excited to announce Re_Pak, a recycling initiative with a goal to upcycle used sports bottles. The Oakland-based company will distribute approximately 30 boxes at select retailers and outdoor industry events where outdoor enthusiasts are encouraged to responsibly retire their used, squeezable bottles. Through a partnership with CHaRM, the Center for Hard-To-Recycle Materials, collected plastics will be repurposed into high-quality materials that will serve future generations.

"Re_Pak is an invitation to the entire active community to join us in being mindful of environmental impact," said HydraPak President & CEO Matt Lyon. "As one of the leading manufacturers of performance plastics, we have continually strived to innovate eco-conscious materials. We are optimistic that outdoor enthusiasts will want to participate in our newest environmentally-focused initiative and we look forward to potentially widening our partnerships with retailers and events across the country."

Through HydraPak's research, only 9% of recyclable plastics are actually recycled. Of that, just 21% of plastics collected and properly sorted get made into new products. The Re_Pak program will not only handle the collecting and sorting of plastics, including the associated costs, but will also ensure that all submitted sports bottles are successfully transferred to partner recycling facilities and reclaimed into long lasting composite construction materials.

Squeezable LDPE and PP sports bottles, both insulated and single wall, are eligible for upcycling, including those made by Polar Bottle, Specialized, CamelBak, UltrAspire, Nathan, Amphipod, Gatorade, and Powerade.

The regional pilot program extends through June at select retailers, colleges and outdoor industry events in the western region of the country including:

Jax Outdoors – five locations across Colorado (April 8 - June 1, 2024)
Sports Basement – seven locations across California (April 8 - June 1, 2024)
REI in Boulder, Colorado (April 8 - June 1, 2024)
