Historic report captures data, benchmarks, and insights from coast to coast

Irvine, CA — The National Bicycle Dealers Association (NBDA) is proud to announce the release of the 2025 NBDA Canadian Specialty Retailer Study, the first report in history dedicated exclusively to capturing data, benchmarks, and statistics from Canadian Specialty Bicycle Retailers. This landmark study represents a major step forward in understanding the unique dynamics of Canada’s bicycle retail market and reinforces the NBDA’s long-term commitment to supporting, advocating for, and empowering Canadian retailers.

Built from data collected through the NBDA’s annual industry survey, the 2025 NBDA Retail Report delivers a comprehensive analysis of Canada’s Specialty Bicycle Retail landscape. More than 90 Specialty Bicycle Retailers from across Canada contributed anonymous responses, creating a representative snapshot of business sizes, models, and regional perspectives.

“This report is about visibility and validation,” said Jenna Semenoff, NBDA Canadian Membership Developer. “For the first time, Canadian Specialty Retailers can see their own operations and policy reflected back at them- benchmarked against peers who operate under the same market conditions. That insight is powerful, and it helps retailers make smarter, more confident decisions for the future.”

The Canadian Specialty Retailer Study also strengthens the NBDA’s ability to advocate effectively on behalf of retailers.

By grounding conversations with policymakers, suppliers, and industry partners in real data, the NBDA can better represent the challenges and opportunities facing Canadian bicycle businesses today.

The report underscores the NBDA’s broader mission in Canada:

  • ● Empowering Retailers
  • ● Advancing Cycling
  • ● Building Community

In parallel with the report, the NBDA has launched its Canadian Advocacy Initiative, a comprehensive program designed to equip retailers with the tools, knowledge, and connections to become influential advocates for cycling in their communities. This free 5-Part webinar series will run February–June 2026 and is open to all bicycle retailers, advocates, and industry professionals—no NBDA membership required. This initiative is powered by partnerships with organizations committed to advancing cycling across Canada and will continue to expand through late 2026 and beyond.

The advocacy journey culminates at the 2026 NBDA Retailer Summit Canada, taking place July 29–30, 2026 in Whistler, BC at the Maury Young Arts Centre. Held in conjunction with Crankworx Whistler, the Summit marks the first-ever dedicated NBDA gathering for Canadian retailers.

A cornerstone of the Summit will be Canadian advocacy and community building, spotlighting retailers who are driving infrastructure improvements, partnering with municipalities, and shaping cycling policy from Victoria to St. John’s. By hosting the NBDA Retailer Summit during Crankworx Whistler, the NBDA is uniting retailer education, advocacy, and global cycling culture in one unforgettable experience. Attendees gain unmatched access to the cycling community, immersive experiences beyond the classroom, and expanded networking with Canadian and North American industry leaders.

“This study, the advocacy initiative, and the Summit all point to the same truth,” added Semenoff. “Canadian retailers aren’t just part of the cycling industry, they’re shaping its future. The NBDA is here to support them every step of the way. ” The 2025 NBDA Canadian Specialty Bicycle Retailer Study is available now as a digital PDF.

Retailers who submitted survey data receive the report at no cost. The report is available for $29 to NBDA members and $129 to non-members on the NBDA website.

The NBDA invites all Specialty Bicycle Retailers to engage with the association and encourages suppliers and brands to become association members as well, demonstrating their support for the specialty retail channel and investing in the future of the bicycle industry. Join online.
