Reid, the Australian-born bike brand headquartered in Poole, UK, is proud to announce the appointment of Ben Tabor as its new Head of Quality & Compliance. With over 20 years of experience across design, engineering, and manufacturing, Ben joins the team to further Reid's mission of providing quality, affordable, and reliable bikes to riders worldwide.
Ben's journey in the industry began in bike shops, where he took every opportunity to gain knowledge and experience across the entire lifecycle of a bicycle. Having lived and worked internationally for many years, he has dedicated his career to building better bikes and growing sustainable transportation.
"Reid caught my attention by doing business differently than much of the bike industry," said Ben. "I was immediately attracted to Reid's low-key, high-value approach. Riders rely on bikes and mobility products to extend their own natural range, speed and agility. At their best, mobility tools should function as a seamless extension of one's own body. These should function reliably and disappear into the rider's experience. As a brand, Reid focuses on the user, not on chasing brand prestige or exclusivity. This is key to making mobility accessible to everyone."
Beyond initial manufacturing, Ben is tasked with transforming Reid’s aftersales and spare parts system. By focusing on "fixing the root" of technical issues and ensuring distributors have immediate access to essential spare parts and components, Reid aims to minimise rider downtime and maximise the lifespan of every bike.
"I am detail-focused and enjoy learning how things function and fail," Ben noted."Quality Management work indulges my natural tendency as a stickler. My work allows me to use this trait for good. It is incredibly satisfying to know my efforts support a network of riders and users pursuing personal goals for transportation, sport, and fitness."
"At Reid, we believe that the best products are those that fit seamlessly into a busy lifestyle," said Rob Akam, CEO of Reid Group. "Ben’s 20 years of experience and his passion for supporting riders align perfectly with our goal of offering a blend of quality, performance, and affordability. His dedication to quality ensures that our riders can trust our products, whether they are commuting to work or exploring their city."
Even outside of the office, Ben remains a dedicated advocate for the cycling lifestyle, starting his days with a ride or a run and offering practical advice for those just starting their journey. For novice cyclists, Ben suggests:
"Besides choosing a great bike, some basic preparation is the best defense against unexpected problems. If you bring a pump, a multi-tool, and a spare tube or sealant, you'll reduce your chances of bad luck drastically. Also, don't underestimate the value of fenders and mudguards. Less muck and tire spray improve your ride and remove excuses not to ride."
