Dahon to halt Amazon sales in North America

Published July 1, 2022

(BRAIN) — Dahon, celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, says it is refocusing on brick-and-mortar retailers by halting sales via Amazon and other online-only vendors.

Dahon North America said it is also expanding its marketing spending with Google advertising and publications to increase awareness and drive store traffic. It also will provide additional dealer discount and offer "robust" incentives to drive consumers to Dahon dealers and for warranty registration.

"After a few challenging years for IBDs, current conditions are certainly looking more promising with O2O (online-to-offline). Therefore DAHON aims to help dealers with strong promotions and incentives for 2022 and beyond. We have been working together with our e-commerce partner since 2020; this Click-N-Collect model allows consumers to buy online from our website and collect from our dealers, as well as enabling dealers to place orders with a real-time inventory. With a logical strategy and partnership opportunities in place, we are excited to announce the return of an exclusive IBD sales model," said founder Dr. David Hon.

The company said the the benefits for dealers from this program include a generous margin for stocking dealers, while non-stocking dealer can still get prompt delivery with a "considerable" margin. For retailers not yet enrolled as a Dahon dealer but located nearby, the consumer will be incentivized by a discount coupon to visit and receive a first-time service or purchase of other accessories.

For enrolled dealers, product shipping will be free on all orders placed via usa.dahon.com. The brand said offers a generous policy whereby if for any reason the consumers not satisfied, Dahon will take the bike back and pay the shipping, if returned in 7 days unridden.
This program will officially start on July 15.

North American retailers can contact USA general manager Monte Smetherman at 800-442-3511 or email montier@dahon.com.
