SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA (BRAIN) — Interbike is opening its door to the public next September, but just a crack. Organizers are testing the concept of a restricted consumer day where consumers would pay $50 in advance and register through local dealers before getting a badge as a retail VIP guest.

FORT COLLINS, CO (BRAIN) — Kelly Cook was getting her Trunk Lock ready for the market, but could not swing the expense of attending Interbike. The situation was the same for Orlando Baker, who was launching a bike line but found the trip to Las Vegas prohibitively expensive.

LAS VEGAS, NV (BRAIN) — Thirty years (or 31?) after he co-founded the Interbike Expo, the industry honored Steve Ready last month during the expo here, bestowing a BRAINy Lifetime Achievement Award.

Admittedly, all you have to do is hang out with the dark side of my family tree and you’ll realize they truly put the “funk” in dysfunctional. With that said, my late flight arrival only allowed me to hear the last half hour of John Burke's speech at the first ever industry breakfast.

CHICAGO, IL (BRAIN) — Opus Bicycles, a Canadian brand, had its entrance into the U.S. market at Interbike marred by the theft of its Prime 1 29er from the show.

Opus' Chris Dimmick said the $5,300 MSRP bike was taken overnight before the final day of the show, last Friday.
