Boyd Cycling introduces Prologue Series carbon wheels

Published September 29, 2020

GREENVILLE, S.C. (BRAIN) — Boyd Cycling has launched its new Prologue Series, introducing three new carbon road wheelsets all priced at a little more than $1,000.

The Prologue Series for road includes 28mm clincher disc, 44mm clincher disc, and 44mm clincher rim brake options. The rims are manufactured using an automated continuous layup process, helping to reduce costs as rims can be produced in mass and drilled for spoke count later.

Hubs are Boyd Johnson-formulated Skyuka with 10-degree engagement and Abec 3 sealed cartridge bearings. The Skyuka rear hub is available in a Shimano Hyperglide or Sram XDR freehub body and requires no tools to swap between the freehub body standards.

Despite the merits of modern day hookless rims, the Prologue Series uses a hooked rim profile to accommodate the use of any tire at any pressure. Riders are not “locked” into riding a certain tire brand, size, or pressure.

The Prologue Series 28mm clincher disc features an 18mm internal rim with a 24/28 mm spoke count and weighs 1,570 grams. The 44mm clincher disc with 24/28 spoke count weighs 1,675 grams, and the 44mm clincher disc, also with a 24/28 spoke count, weighs 1,555 grams. All are built using Pillar SR XTRA 1423 spokes with Pillar Double Square Brass nipples. Sold as a wheelset only, each of the new Prologue Series retails for $1,050.

The Prologue Series carbon wheelsets all feature a lifetime warranty. Boyd Cycling wheels are available in the U.S. through IBD channels. For more information about Boyd Cycling visit
