Magene is latest to offer a radar tail light for bikes

Published August 30, 2022

QINGDAO, China (BRAIN) — Magene joins Garmin to offer a rear-facing radar light for cyclists. Magene's L508 will be available soon for consumer purchase on Amazon and the company told BRAIN it is actively seeking wholesale distributors in the U.S.

Magene also offers stationary trainers, power meters, bike computers and sensors.

The L508 warns riders of approaching vehicles who are up to 140 meters (460 feet) behind. When a vehicle approaches, the device's light enters flashing mode to alert the driver; it alerts the cyclist via the display on compatible head units and watches from Magene, Garmin, Wahoo, Bryton and other brands.

The L508 also has a brakelight feature. It can detect braking and put the light into highlight mode. The company said the unit is designed to ignore shaking and small bumps that could provide false alerts. The light offers five light modes including solid, flashing, pulse, peloton and radar-only. The modes can be customized in the Magene Utility App.

The device automatically enters sleep mode after five minutes of inactivity. It also automatically wakes up when riding resumes. It offers up to 16 hours of battery life, has a USB-C charging port, and comes with bolt-on and o-ring seatpost attachments.  Magene did not announce U.S. pricing.

Bryton also showed a new radar unit at Eurobike this year.
