(BRAIN) — Velocomp, which manufactures the AeroPod and PowerPod aero sensors and power meters has released PowerBoost, a a new alternative to torque sensors on e-bikes.
John Hamann, the CEO of Velocomp LLC, said, "PowerBoost delivers expensive torque sensor performance without the cost and complexity of traditional torque sensors. PowerBoost applies our proven and patented combination of accelerometer, air pressure, and barometric sensor technology to deliver enhanced e-bike performance and high reliability. Among its many features, e-bikes with PowerBoost offers slope-adjusted starting motor torque, delivers an easy, natural pedaling experience irrespective of wind and hill conditions, and displays real-time slope and wind speed information."
PowerBoost sensors and technology are located inside a handlebar-mounted display, which keeps it away from "the splash-prone and mechanically stressful environments of traditional torque sensors," the company said.
Hamann said, "Our partner AVS Mobility has implemented PowerBoost in its line of 'RC' HMIs. The RC line is commercially available at prices beginning at $40, and is ready for integration into any e-bike design".
