Published October 8, 2010

CHAPEL HILL, NC (BRAIN)—Multichannel Merchant has named Performance Bicycle a Silver Award winner in the 25th Annual MCM Awards, which recognize excellence in multichannel retailing.

The MCM Awards recognize companies that exhibit strong branding and multichannel strategy, according to a press release. In naming Performance a Silver Award winner in the sporting goods/hobbies category, judges highlighted the strength of performancebike.com, which features buying guides and how-to sections that make the site more than just an online catalog.

“Making sure that performancebike.com is a truly helpful, fun and easy-to-shop resource has been a key priority for us,” said Cindy Marshall, chief marketing officer for Performance Inc. “We designed it to be an extension of the in-store experience, where our friendly and knowledgeable associates help guests based on their needs, whether they’re shopping for a top-of-the-line road bike or their child’s first bike.”

Judges also praised Performance for the cross-selling features of its site, where product suggestions are relevant and logical, and shows a clear understanding of merchandising. In addition, Performance was noted for serving as a niche community for cycling enthusiasts, providing visitors with instructional videos, and developing a strong Facebook presence and on-site blog.

“We are cyclists who love the sport,” Marshall said. “We feel a special responsibility to serve as a trusted guide and advisor, and we make sure those values are ingrained in performancebike.com.”
