The 5th Spot

Published July 28, 2011

A group of current and former military personnel set out on a 1,900-mile bicycle trek on Wednesday in an effort to raise awareness about homeless veterans.

The Vet Hunters, as they call themselves, are traveling from Los Angeles to St. Louis helping homeless veterans get services on the way.

The 18-day trip will end in St. Louis at a National Stand Down event, where Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki will be in attendance. The group hopes the trip will garner national attention for the movement to aid homeless veterans.

A film crew is riding with the group, documenting its travels. They plan to make it into a documentary with narration from actor Jon Voight.

The group can be tracked on its Facebook page during the trip at www.facebook.com/thevethuntersproject (click on above link).
