Specialized Hires Veteran Journalist Delaney

Published September 9, 2011

MORGAN HILL, CA (BRAIN)—Specialized has hired veteran cycling journalist Ben Delaney as brand communications manager.

“From the local trails to the Tour de France, Specialized is actively involved in every aspect of cycling,” said Specialized chief marketing officer Steve Francisco. “With so many world-class engineers, racers and designers constantly pushing the envelope with innovative bikes and equipment, it’s great to have Ben on board to help share our stories with the world.”

As the former editor in chief of VeloNews, Delaney spent many years covering bicycle technology and professional racing around the globe. Before joining VeloNews in 2005, Delaney was an editor for Bicycle Retailer and Industry News. Like most riders at Specialized, Delaney has a garage filled with bikes—road, mountain, kids, cyclocross, track and triathlon.

“I’m delighted to join the team at Specialized,” Delaney said. “Obviously, the product is great, with real-world solutions for every level of rider. But I’m also fired up about Specialized’s depth of programs, with everything from our new sustainability initiative to our world-class teams to our First Gear kids program.”

Delaney will be putting his writing experience to use, working closely with Francisco on global brand communications and messaging.

Delaney is based in Boulder, Colorado, where he is already having trouble keeping up with his 9-year-old son at the local Valmont Bike Park. His email is ben.delaney@specialized.com.
