CU students find use for old race numbers • High demand closes Frostbike Registration • Liv/Giant adds marketing manager

BOULDER, CO (BRAIN) Jan 23, 15:27 MT — What to do with a box of leftover unused race numbers, or, even worse, a pile of crumpled, grimy used numbers, complete with a handful of safety pins?

A couple of student bike racers at the University of Colorado-Boulder noticed the many leftover numbers from each collegiate race and decided to find a use for the thin, light and strong material, which is similar to DuPont Tyvek.

Corey Moxon, a junior, and Michael Cody, a grad student, are making phone wallets out of the numbers. They make a simple sleeve for phones with a pocket for cash or cards that retails for $15. A Rain Sleeve, $8, is like an envelope that fits over the Race Sleeve.

The pair is primarily using unused numbers leftover from CU-sponsored collegiate races, but will consider using racers' own used numbers to make custom sleeves. The pair is selling the products consumer-direct on MCM Gear Shop; they also are interested in selling wholesale. They can be reached at mcmgearshop@gmail.com.
