Shimano, Hutchinson Offering Industry Deal

Published August 14, 2008

LAKE FOREST, CA (BRAIN)—Road Tubeless originators Hutchinson and Shimano are offering their new DuraAce wheels and Bulldog CX tires (and a 105 cogset) to industry members and shop employees at an immense discount to kick off the '08/09 Cyclocross season.

"The advantages of tubeless tires for 'cross are almost too good to be true," said Jesse Gascon, Action Sports product manager and cyclocross racer at Shimano. "I run them at less than 25 pounds, and they give me ultimate traction, no pinch flats, and faster rolling wheels than any tubed tire I've ever tried."

A recent test at Cyclocross Magazine showed that running 25 psi versus 70 psi increased rolling efficiency by 5 percent, which can shave two minutes off a 45 minute race.

The Scandium Dura-Ace wheels provide a durable, lightweight, stable ride with incredible braking surfaces and a rim profile that perfectly matches the Hutchinson tires. Also included is a 12-27 Shimano 105 cogset.

Eric VanHaverbeke, general manager of Hutchinson USA, said, "We are pumped to introduce our new, more aggressive Bulldog Cyclocross tire to the industry through this promotion with Shimano. Their DuraAce wheels are designed to work with our tires, and the results so far have been amazing."

The Bulldog features slightlty larger square knobbies that give increased traction and mud-shedding capability. Ultra-light 34-millimeter size and 127 tpi casings bring the tire weight in at 405 grams. The system is designed to be filled with Hutchinson's Fast'air latex liquid sealant and inflation cartridge.
