Published January 13, 2022

WASHINGTON (BRAIN) — Giant Bicycle has recalled some 2021 Giant and Liv adult bikes because the adjustable stem can loosen and pose a fall and injury hazard.

The recall includes the Giant Cypress DX, Giant Escape 3 Comfort, Liv Flourish FS 1, and Liv Alight 3 Comfort.

Consumers should immediately stop riding the bikes. They should contact Giant and will be instructed to schedule an inspection and free repair at an authorized Giant retailer where it was purchased or any other authorized Giant retailer.

They were sold in metallic black; dark silver; dark red/burgundy; and grayish blue, plum, or sage, depending on the model.

Recalled bikes have a serial number beginning with "P" under the bottom bracket. The model name is printed on the toptube, with Giant on the downtube of the Cypress DX and Escape 3 Comfort. Liv is printed on the downtube of the Alight 3 Comfort. Liv is printed on the chainstay of the Flourish FS 1.

Giant has received 86 reports of the handlebar becoming loose, including three reports of riders falling off the bicycle. The recall involves about 20,800 units and the bikes were sold exclusively at Giant dealers nationwide and online at www.giant-bicycles.com/us or www.liv-cycling.com/us from October 2020 through October 2021 for $590-$690.
