IDYLLWILD, Calif. (BRAIN) — David "Bud" Hunt Jr., the owner of The Bike Route here, died on Feb. 23 at 93.

Hunt had run the store in this small mountain town above Palm Springs since 1973.

"Although not an industry giant, he was a giant in the local cycling community. He is known by many in the Southern California mountain bike racing circles of the 80's and 90's," said his son, David Hunt, who continues to operate the store.

Bud ran the store after retiring as Idyllwild's fire chief. He worked in the small shop every day until he was 92 years old and passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family, David said.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Calvary Chapel in Mountain Center at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 12.
