June wholesale bike sell-ins down in dollars and units

BOULDER, Colo. (BRAIN) — Wholesale bike sales were down 6.6% in dollars and 17.1% in units in June, compared to the same month last year, according to the latest Sell-in Report from the Bicycle Product Suppliers Association.

The report found that participating BPSA members sold $100,234,000 worth of bikes to their customers in June. The report tracks sales by those members to retailers, including IBDs and other kinds of retailers. In units, the members sold 180,879 bikes in June, down 37,314 units from the month last year. 

The report also tracks inventory of members. In June the members had 623,804 bikes on hand, 10.7% fewer than at the same time last year. A higher average bike price means the dollar value of that inventory was up 10.8% from last year, to $297,852,000.

  • Overall: $100,223,732 (-6.6%); 180,879 bikes (-17.1%)
  • BMX: $1,579,202 (5.5%); 5,969 bikes (-3.8%)
  • Lifestyle/Leisure: $5,143,646 (-19.9%); 18,178 bikes (-31%)
  • Mountain: $29,537,441 (-10.1%); 46,171 bikes (-7.3%)
  • Other (incl. e-bikes): $14,149,602 (15.2%); 6,544 bikes (-3.6%)
  • Road: $25,159,034 (-3.8%); 18,296 bikes (-15.3%)
  • Transit/Fitness: $18,866,063 (-15.6%); 51,927 bikes (-26.5%)
  • Youth: $5,788,744 (-0.3%); 33,794 bikes (-8.2%)
