Germany's Canyon Bicycles opens office in Japan

KOBLENZ, Germany (BRAIN) — Canyon Bicycles is eyeing growth in the Asian market. The German consumer-direct brand has launched Canyon Japan. It held an opening party in Tokyo Sunday attended by some 200 guests including 100 Canyon customers.

Canyon has delivered bikes to Japan for a few years. All bikes are produced and then dispatched directly to customers. But previously, the only channel for Canyon customers in Japan had been through the Japanese language version of canyon.com. With the establishment of a new local office led by market manager Yukikaze Ishiyama, customers will see an increase in support and have a host of new services available, Canyon noted in a press release.

"Japan is a massively important market for Canyon and it's immediately clear how much passion the Japanese people have for riding," said Matthew Heitmann, chief marketing officer. "With Yukikaze Ishiyama and his team now on board we are finally able to offer a direct contact for all our customers in Japan and we look forward to increasing our presence in the thriving bike scene out there."

In addition to the company headquarters in Koblenz, Germany, Canyon has 12 representatives in Europe. Japan is the second country in Asia to have an official presence following the launch of Canyon South Korea earlier this year.

Based in Kyoto, Canyon Japan will begin providing direct customer support and already has a number of campaigns lined up for next year.

Attending the opening party was Russian ProTeam Katusha rider Joaquim Rodriguez. Canyon engineer Michael Andomeit explained the development story behind Rodriguez's Aeroad CF SLX race bike.
