Tern, Giant and Joy among those honored by Taiwan Excellence Award

Published January 27, 2016

TAIPEI, Taiwan (BRAIN) — Some bicycle brands well-known in the U.S., as well as some lesser known brands, were among those recognized in the most recent Taiwan Excellence Awards. The awards are bestowed by Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs and have been since 1992. Winners are judged on their excellence in R&D, design, quality, marketing and Taiwanese manufacturing and are allowed to use the TEA symbol, shown at right, in their marketing.

Tern Bicycles received three awards — two for bikes and one for its Perch bike storage shelf.

"Taiwan is foundational to the success and identity of our company," said Josh Hon, the founder and team captain of Tern. "It's great that the humble bicycle can stand next to high tech electronics that Taiwan considers important for the future."

The bike related award winners were:

  • Tern Bicycles: Verge Tour and Verge X20 bicycles, Perch storage shelf
  • Giant Bicycle: SLR wheels, TCR Advanced SL road bike
  • Joy Industries: Wide Carbon Straight Pull road wheels
  • Pacific: New Birdy folding bike, New Reach folding bike
  • Kenda: Saber Pro XC mountain bike tire
  • King Root: Aeroforce bike rack attachment, Trunk bike carriers
