Trek to host 'cross race at headquarters

Published August 20, 2013

WATERLOO, WI (BRAIN) Trek Bicycle is hosting a UCI-sanctioned cyclocross race at its Wisconsin headquarters next month.

The inaugural Trek Cyclocross Collective Cup is scheduled for Sept. 21-22 and is expected to be one of the largest cyclocross races in the Midwest.

The event is being managed by John Ericsson and Renee Callaway, who have put on the event as a U.S. Grand Prix of Cyclocross series stop in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, for the last four years. The USGP series is not being held this year.

"We started the UCI event in Wisconsin several years ago because we had such a passionate cyclocross community hungry for a national level event," said Ericsson. "I’m extremely excited to be working with Trek as they have so much enthusiasm for the sport and are the perfect partner to help us ensure a top quality race and a great fan experience in 2013."

The Trek CXC Cup will feature two days of racing for UCI C2 points for elite racers but Saturday will feature higher prize payout levels equal to a UCI C1 race. In addition, the elite women will race for equal prize money as deep as the men's list on both Saturday and Sunday.

In addition to the professional events, amateur races for USAC licensed riders will be held on both days.

“The folks at Trek love cyclocross and they really know how to have a good time and put on a great event,” said Trek-sponsored racer Katie Compton. “I have heard a little bit about the course and have a feeling it will be hard but super fun to ride.”
